Jeni’s Britton and Ellen Bennett are Friends - This is why it matters
Jeni Britton, the founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice-Cream is good friends with Ellen Bennett, the founder of Hedley and Bennett, the premium apron brand.
This is a series called “How expensive becomes worth it” - dissecting the anatomy of premium pricing.

As I was reading Dream First, Details Later…I learned about how Ellen built the brand brick by brick without having much of a plan or experience in the retail space. She was obsessed with putting out a great product, doing her best, and serving one of the most difficult customers in the market - the line cook.
She made an apron that hugged their unique bodies, performed during their grueling 16 hour shifts cooking for hungry customers, and made them feel proud to be who they were. She mentioned Jeni in her book and that’s when it clicked for me - birds of a feather flock together. When you want to understand what a brand stands for really, look at who they keep in their circle.
Premium pricing is a value system that’s shared at the community level. People come together under the same belief system and that’s what gives it the foundation to stand on.
This touches on the mindset CEOs need to have when positioning themselves in the market. Look at your immediate circle, do they share the world view that you share? Are they serving their people the way that you are? If so, you’ll hold one another accountable, cheer each other on, and create a world that is better for consumers.
